The only way that I can find to make the icon lettering boxes translucent is to go back to these settings and tick "Use drop shadows for icon labels on the desktop". I don't remember my icons having shadowing however. Is there another way to return the desktop icon labels to default translucent?

You can run the program by double click the icon. Each icon has name label. For Windows XP, orininally, labels do not have background. but somehow I change settings and the color background appears. (Or right-click the desktop and select properties.) Select the desktop tab, and use the drop-down menu bottom-right. I'm assuming you've got a colour at the moment (allbeit not the colour you want), if not, right-click the desktop, "arrange icons by"..., lock web items on desktop. HTH Tony.
